Kyle Lafferty

International striker open to Championship loan move

Out-of-favour Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty has told the Daily Mail that he is prepared to leave the club. The Northern Ireland striker wants first-team football in the build-up to Euro 2016, which has alerted several Championship clubs.

The 28-year-old, who has been a revelation as a centre forward for his national team, has desperately lacked first-team opportunities at Carrow Road. He has only played 13 minutes of football in the Premier League, but did score in a recent Capital One Cup tie victory against West Bromwich Albion. The former Burnley striker says he plans making his feelings known to Alex Neil in the near future,

“I’m going to have to sit down with the manager in January and have a discussion with him.

I know that I will need to play football in the New Year and going into the Euros.

It is difficult at my club at present with not playing, but I will keep training and working away in the hope I get my chance.

I’d love to be playing at Norwich but if I have to go out on loan or be sold to play football that might be the way it will be.

For the Euros I want to be in the best shape of my life and need to be playing to do that.”

Leeds United is one of the clubs said to have expressed in interest in prizing Lafferty away from Norwich, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post. In September he said he was prepared to stay at Norwich to try and fight for his place, refusing to leave on loan. However the situation has now changed with qualification for the Euros confirmed with Northern Ireland.
