Wilder distances himself from Cambridge United job

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder has distanced himself from the managerial vacancy at Cambridge United, when speaking to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo. Earlier this week he was installed as the heavy favourite to succeed the recently sacked Richard Money.

He still remains a relatively short price in the betting, however he has now been relegated to joint second-favourite alongside former Notts County boss Shaun Derry. The new favourite is the experienced Peter Taylor. He can call the likes of the England national team, Leicester City, Hull City and Gillingham amongst his former clubs. At this moment in time he is managing in the Indian Super League with Kerala Blasters.

Nevertheless, Wilder said that he doesn’t plan on leaving the football club anytime soon and insists that, if anything, it is a compliment to the team that he is linked with other jobs,

“A lot has gone off, and I am still sat here as manager of this football club.

This happens from time to time when your football club, your players, and your team are picking up decent results.

So I will get my head down and keep going.”

The Cobblers are currently suffering from a series of off-the-field financial difficulties. The club are soon due in the high court because of a fee owned to HMRC. However there is light at the end of the tunnel, assuming that former Oxford United chairman, Kelvin Thomas, completes his takeover of the club in the coming days.
