Blackburn Rovers: New man to come in before Preston game

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that manager Gary Bowyer along with his coaching staff have left the club, but a new boss is set to be appointed sooner rather than later. according to The Sun.

Blackburn owners Venky’s felt that a change at the club was needed after a disappointing start to the season and so have sacked manager Gary Bowyer with the club in the bottom half of the table.

Assistant manager Terry McPhillips, first team coaches Craig Short and Tony Grant, and goalkeeping coach John Keeley have also left the club as Venky’s look to get promoted back into the Premier League.

It is understood therefore that Venky’s want an appointment to be made quickly in order to close the 11-point gap between Blackburn and the play-offs, with reports indicating the new man will be in charge for Rovers’ next game – against Lancashire rivals Preston North End.

It is believed that Blackburn have approached Slavisa Jokanovic, who took Watford up last season.  However Paul Lambert is also a name being mentioned, as he won promotion with Norwich City.

It is rumoured that Venky’s will only consider coaches who have won promotion from the Championship already in their career, which could rule out names such as former Rovers favourite Tim Sherwood.
