Blackburn Rovers sack manager Gary Bowyer

Blackburn Rovers have sacked manager Gary Bowyer, the club have confirmed.

Bowyer has lost his job due to owners Venky’s feeling that they had to act following a disappointing start the season, and that a change must be made to make a push for promotion.

Gary Bowyer had been in charge for two years at Blackburn Rovers but had been involved with the club far longer in various roles such as Under-18s manager and Reserve Team manager. Bowyer also had two spells in caretaker charge of the club following the departures of Henning Berg and Michael Appleton.

The dismissal of Bowyer may not come as a shock for some fans, with the club being linked with former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson and former Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic this week.

Rovers’ owners Venkys want the club to be promoted as soon as possible as they are losing money – around £25 million a year according to The Sun.

To do this the team need to close the gap on the top-six as soon as possible and so it is understood that a new man will be in charge for Blackburn’s next game against Preston.
