Yorkshire businessman eyes up Leeds United takeover

Local businessman Steve Parkin is interested in buying Leeds United after current owner Massimo Cellino declared the club was up for sale, according to Sky Sports.

Massimo Cellino was preparing to sell the club to the fans group Leeds Fans United, who were set up with the hope of buying a minority stake in the West Yorkshire club. Cellino then decided against selling to the group, despite originally stating he wanted to make the move as it ‘would be my legacy’.

Parkin’s estimated worth is believed to be over £100 million. The Leeds-based businessman attempted to buy the club in 2013, when previous owner Ken Bates was looking to sell Leeds before eventually striking a deal with Bahrain-based bank GFH Capital.

The owner of Clipper Logistics Group was reportedly at Leeds United’s last game, the 3-0 away win against Huddersfield Town.

Parkin has said that “what happens to my club is important to me. I keep my business affairs private. That does not mean I am about to buy Leeds.”
