Two Championship clubs join Leeds in Bridcutt race

Cardiff City and Reading have joined Leeds United in hoping to sign Liam Bridcutt on loan from Sunderland. Yorkshire Evening Post understands that there is plenty of competition to pen the temporary transfer of the out-of-favour midfield player.

Recently appointed Leeds head coach Steve Evans was hopeful around the time of bringing in the former Brighton & Hove Albion holding midfielder to play in last Tuesday’s game against Cardiff. His current manager, Sam Allardyce, who himself has only been in the job a short period of time, suggested that the player was “confused, a bit like Leeds”. Speaking after the weekend victory over Huddersfield Town, Evans providing an update on the situation,

“I spoke to Liam (Bridcutt) on Friday and the conversation went extremely well.”

The Elland Road side are also hoping to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard and have also been linked with Norwich City striking duo Kyle Lafferty and Lewis Grabban. However with news that two more Championship sides have joined the race to sign Bridcutt, it remains to be seen where the in-demand player will end up.

Bridcutt was born in Reading so that could potentially give them a decent chance of landing the midfield, who undoubtedly will still have family connections in the area.

The one-cap Scotland player, who qualifies to play for them through his Scottish-born grandfather, has yet to feature for the Mackems at all this season. He hasn’t played competitive since featuring for an hour in Sunderland’s Premier League clash against Leicester City at the end of last season.
