Huddersfield Town explain Powell sacking

Huddersfield Town have explained their decision to sack manager Chris Powell, and have said that the decision was “made with the long term interests of the Club in mind”, Huddersfield Town’s official website has reported.

News broke on Wednesday morning that Huddersfield had parted company with Powell, who’s last match was the 2-2 draw with Reading on Tuesday night.

During his spell in charge of Town, where he joined in September 2014, Powell has managed 57 games. Out of those 57, Huddersfield have won 15, drawn 20 and lost 22. The Terriers currently sit in 18th place in the Sky Bet Championship.

In a statement on the club’s website, Huddersfield’s Chief Executive Nigel Clibbens said “we have decided to make this change after very careful deliberation. It is made with the long term interests of the club in mind. It signals a change of direction by the club and a new approach.

“Chris worked to represent Huddersfield Town to the best of his ability; to develop us, improve us and take us forward. He now leaves us well placed for the future challenges ahead.
“With his skills and qualities as a person, it won’t be too long before Chris finds a new challenge and we wish him success when that comes.
“We would like to thank Chris and Alex and give them our best wishes for the future.”
The process to appoint a new manager now begins at the club, but for the meantime academy manager Mark Lillis, First Team Coach Steve Eyre and Senior Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn will take charge of the first team, starting with the West Yorkshire derby against Leeds United on Saturday.
