Cellino decides against selling Leeds to the fans

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino’s lawyers have told Leeds Fans Utd, the fan group wishing to purchase a stake in the club, that he “no longer wishes to sell to Leeds fans”, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay.

News came out late last week that Cellino had decided to sell the club to the fans following chants against him during the 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Thursday night.

Now it is reported that the current owner has decided against the move with reasons unclear at the current time.

The Italian was set to meet with another interested group on Monday afternoon, with soft drinks giant Red Bull also being reportedly interested in buying the club. It is unclear who the meeting was with on Monday.

Leeds Fans Utd have responded by the news by saying “this has proved our capacity to adapt to any acquisition scenario. We have the capacity to do minority and majority deal.

“We hope that Massimo will treat the club and fans with respect and honour.”

On the pitch, Leeds United picked up their first win under Steve Evans and first home win in eight months on Tuesday night. Alex Mowatt’s strike secured the three points in the 1-0 victory at Elland Road.
