Leeds United 2-0 in 5 minutes – Twitter reacts

It didn’t start prettily for Leeds United against Blackburn, 1-0 down within 17 seconds after conceding a soft goal to Craig Conroy after a misdirected Sol Bamba header allowed the Blackburn player to smash the ball in.

Leeds United are used to coming from behind and getting something out of games, a 1-0 scoreline this early in the game would not cause any undue concern. However, things were to get worse, much worse with just over five minutes of the game gone as Blackburn stretched their lead. A quick break was all that it took to undo a fragile-looking Leeds United team, susceptible to falling over even with the slightest hint of a puff of wind. The ball was played into Jordan Rhodes, a deadly striker, who engineered himself a half-yard of space before turning his marker and firing it past Marco Silvestri in the Leeds United goal.

To say that Blackburn were having the better of the game would be a gross understatement, Leeds couldn’t have bought possession even if it’d been on offer at ALDI in the bargain basement bin. Time after time they were opened up by a Blackburn team who simply knew that Leeds were there for the taking. This was the opening 10 or so minutes of the first half, Leeds were reeling like a punch-drunk boxer being whaled on by a much better boxer.

Twitter was at its most merciless. Instantly.
