Arsenal linked with signing of one-time Blackburn flop

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Anthony Modeste could be set for a move to the Premier League with Arsenal according to the Daily Star. He had a less than inspiring loan spell as the club were relegated into the Championship back in 2012.

27-year-old Modeste, who currently ply’s his trade with Bundesliga side KC Köln, is currently being monitored by Arsene Wenger’s scouting team. He has started the new season in fine form, finding the net of six occasions in just nine matches. Wenger, who isn’t always too keen to spend ‘big bucks’, would probably need to pay a handsome price to land the target man forward. He is under contract with the one-time UEFA Cup runners-up until 2019.

Modeste moved to Ewood Park on loan from Bordeaux in January 2012. He failed to score during his stay but did manage a red card against West Bromwich Albion. His brief temporary stay seems to have been the turning point in the Frenchman’s career. He fell narrowly short on reaching 20 goals in his next two seasons with Bastia and Hoffenheim respectively, and is now closing in on a achieving a similar figure in this campaign.

Perhaps Steve Kean did have a decent eye for a player after all. Modeste wouldn’t be the first striker to ‘do well for himself’ after leaving Blackburn. Nikola Kalinic would be a good example of this.
