Unlikely new favourite to become Swindon Town boss

Ross Embleton has today emerged as the new favourite to become the next Swindon Town manager. A flurry of money has seen him overtake Martin Ling and Luke Williams in the betting to replace the recently sacked Mark Cooper at the County Ground.

Embleton has specialised in youth football throughout his career for a number of different clubs. At present, he is a Senior Development Coach with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. In the past he has been the Youth Team Manager with AFC Bournemouth and also been Youth Development Manager at Leyton Orient.

On his LinkedIn page, he describes himself as having ’18 years’ experience in coaching Elite, Academy and Grassroots football in the UK, America, China and Dubai’. He also highlights his strengths, including ‘development players and coaches’ as well as managing ‘performance standards and ability’.

Embleton is 5/4 with Sky Bet to replace Cooper, with Williams now second favourite at 5/2, with one-time odds-on shout Martin Ling drifting out to 7/2. Tim Sherwood, who was sacked by Aston Villa yesterday, was once 2/1, but he too was drifted out to 7/1, which is no real surprise.

Chairman Lee Power remains caretaker manager for now and is expected to oversee their next couple of matches. There has been connection between Swindon Town and Tottenham Hotspur, with the Premier League sides loaning the likes of Massimo Luongo and Nathan Byrne initially joining before eventually penning permanent deals. When Kevin McDonald walked away as manager in 2013, several members of the Tottenham coaching staff were linked to the role. It seems the same has happened again.
