Birmingham boss threatens to fine players

Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett has threatened his players who pick up avoidable yellow cards with ‘hefty fines’, according to a report by Birmingham Mail.

The decision is believed to have come about after defender Paul Caddis picked up two needless yellow cards in Birmingham’s two matches prior to today’s defeat at Hull.  The first was for throwing the ball away and the second for dissent in their win at Bolton.

Caddis is now on three yellow cards for the season which means if he picks up another two in the next six games, he gets an automatic one-match ban.

Boss Rowett said of his decision: “I just said if we continue with that we have got to be a little bit careful because I will certainly be handing some pretty hefty fines out if one or two of the lads keep picking up unnecessary bookings and end up missing a game.

“The cut off is at the end of November so we have just got to be a little bit careful about that. Caddis is an example because it has happened to him twice in the last two games. We have just got to make sure we curtail it.”

Caddis was not cautioned in Birmingham’s defeat to Hull this afternoon.
