Hockaday a Harrier – Leeds fans react on Twitter

“David who? Really? I’ll just check Wikipedia.” That’s basically how Leeds United fans reacted to the appointment of David Hockaday. Now the Hockmeister has been appointed as manager at National League side Kidderminster Harriers.

The Hock didn’t have the best of times at Leeds United, with his training methods resulting in the Whites playing more like messy than Lionel. His reign was six games long, 70 days in length and was terminated after an abject 2-1 loss to local rivals Bradford City in the Capital One Cup at the Bantams’ Valley Parade ground.

Since then, his name has been sounded as fondly as a particularly smelly fart in a spacesuit, the very words tinged with bitterness on the tongues of Leeds fans. The head scratching may have ceased amongst the Elland Road faithful but this hasn’t stopped them commenting on social media over him flying in as a Harrier.

The thing is, was Hockaday really that bad or did he take on a task at Leeds that was way above his station and ability? Probably a little of both in reality, he was definitely out of his depth and it is this that Leeds fans remember with much mirth and merriment.
