Ex-Leeds boss appointed as Kidderminster head coach

Ex-Leeds United boss David Hockaday has been appointed as head coach of National League side Kidderminster Harriers, the club’s official website has confirmed.

The 57-year-old was appointed as Leeds United head coach last summer, when owner Massimo Cellino needed to appoint his first boss since taking over at the club.

His spell at Leeds can be regarded as an unsuccessful one, winning just two of his six competitive games in charge of the club, one was in the League Cup and his only three points in the league came against Middlesbrough in the 1-0 win at Elland Road.

This form led to Hockaday being sacked after just 70 days in charge at the West Yorkshire club. He has since had roles at Swindon Supermarine and Coventry City, where he took charge of a first-team game as caretaker manager.

Speaking about the appointment with Kidderminster’s website, chairman Rod Brown said “as a Board we were presented with the challenge of finding someone with a proven track record of developing young players and nurturing talent – in that sense we are wholly confident that we have the right man.

“Dave has an enviable reputation as a coach within the game and we are very fortunate to be in a position to bring him into the club at the time when our squad really needs a lift.

“He understands the size of the challenge here and, more importantly, what we are trying to achieve as a wider picture and the fact that he’s so excited to get started here speaks volumes.”
