The greatest and most cynical fans in the world

Leeds United is a huge club. Admittedly a lot bigger in the 60’s and 70’s but still to this day bringing in crowds of 25,000+ in the second tier of English Football is a huge bragging right in West Yorkshire. However it’s these so called ‘fans’ who are the base of my article today.

The fans at Leeds have put up with a lot of rubbish over the years. From owners who shouldn’t of been left in charge of a cat to players who looked like heroin fuelled teenagers running around looking for their next fix. Even with this, fans still turned up in their thousands to watch. When the club was in League 1 their highest attendance was over 38,000 where the average for the league over the season was just over 9000.
These fans are the heart and soul of the club, they turn up each and every week no matter how many times they say ‘I ain’t f@**ing watching this s@*t ever again’
This season I’ve heard the same fan who sits around me say after five games unbeaten ‘Rosler is the way forward, stability is what’s needed’ to the week later saying ‘Rosler out, he’s the wrong man for the job’
This is the problem with what is in my opinion the greatest fans in the world. They’re so cynical about the club and will change their mind in a heartbeat. After three losses and poor performances, people want to see the axe being swing towards a certain German. Why? Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will Leeds United.
People won’t like this comparison but I’m going with it anyway. If Sir Alex Ferguson had been sacked after 3 bad performances in the league, would Manchester United be one of the main forces in English football? No.
Managers need time and support to do their job efficiently. They don’t need to be sacked 10 games into their reign because of three bad performances. If we win at Brighton in 10 days, those fans who doubted Rosler will be congratulating him on his brilliant tactical ideas.
Uwe Rosler needs a minimum of 12 months in charge before we start swinging the axe. He needs to build a team for the future and not a team for five months then hand it on to some other manager.
The team needs to be stable under one manager and then move forward. It will never work with 4-5 managers a season. No season goes without its ups and downs! We should back Uwe and help him move the team forward and back to where we belong.
