Hill to ring Rochdale alterations in JPT tie

Rochdale manager Keith Hill has told the club’s official website that he will be making changes for tomorrow’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy game with Chesterfield. He plans on making five alterations to his starting eleven.

Competition rules state that club can make up to a maximum of five changes to their ‘usual’ starting team based on their performances so far this season. Former Barnsley boss Hill said that he ideally would have liked to make more changes, but insists that he respects the competition and has a big desire to win at every level,

“I’ve got to be mindful that we do want to be successful with respect to every game that we play in – I want victories. I’ve also got respect for the competition and the opposition but I believe with our current squad that we shouldn’t be restricted to making five changes to the starting eleven.”

In addition to Hill criticising the current competition rules, he also went on to say that this game with League One rivals Chesterfield could represent a great opportunity for certain players to stake a claim for a regular place,

“I think that we maybe would have liked to have made one or two more, but five is enough for me. I don’t think it will dilute our opportunities on the night and I’m looking forward to giving those players, who has assured me that they deserve to be playing, the opportunity (for me) to look at them and the supporters as well.”

Dale suffered a 3-1 home defeat to Bradford City on Saturday but currently occupy the final play-off spot in League One after eleven matches. The likes of Lewis Alessandra, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Ashley Eastham are amongst that hoping to earn rare starts for Hill’s men tomorrow night.
