Fulham coach left furious after late Charlton comeback

Fulham manager Kit Symons is ‘incredibly disappointed’ after he saw his side suffer a late setback at London rivals Charlton Athletic.

Fulham looked to be on course for 3 points and their fifth win in eight games after going 2-0 up on the hour mark with Ross McCormack’s 7th of the season – only to witness Charlton’s complete comeback with Jordan Cousins’ fanatic 90th minute equaliser which settled the game to 2-2.

According to West London Sport, Whites’ coach Kit Symons had this to say: “I’m incredibly disappointed. To be 2-0 up and dominant in the game and cruising to then throw it away is inexplicable.

“There’s no excuse. We should have gone on and got a third and killed the game off. We made poor decisions; don’t take those chances when they come. If that’s the case you’ve got to do the job right at the other end.

“Two free headers: two points thrown away. Up to the last 10 minutes we never looked in any trouble whatsoever.

“Defining moments in games: the crowd were singing for Johnnie Jackson to come on about 15 minutes earlier. He suddenly came on, made an impact, gave them a big lift. They took advantage of that and we shot ourselves in the foot.”

After dropping crucial points at The Valley, Fulham have a very tough test away next week at title favourites Middlesbrough, who seek 3 points to go above leaders Brighton. Losing a comfortable lead and 2 points away to Charlton means that Fulham sit 13th in the Championship, 6 points off of the play-off places, it remains to be seen what Kit Symons can do to perform well against a very strong Middlesbrough side.
