Wilder Rotherham link is pure cobblers

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder has informed the Northampton Chronicle & Echo that he is happy at the club. He has been linked with the vacant job at Championship strugglers Rotherham United.

He has since drifted out to 22/1 with Sky Bet to replace Steve Evans, who departed the club along with assistant Paul Raynor earlier this week. He was originally one of the early favourites. Wilder is no stranger to the Millers having served as a player and captain for them in the past, yet he maintains he sees himself staying at Sixfields for the foreseeable future,

“Rotherham is a good club, but I have always said regarding these things that it happens when people think you’re doing a good job.

From my point of view, I am enjoying my time here at Northampton.

As I said to the chairman when I walked through the door here, all the clubs I have been at I have been there for a considerable time.

The backing I have had from the supporters really means a lot to myself and Alan (Knill – assistant manager), and I didn’t come here to walk out of the door 18 months later to anybody.”

Wilder played 158 times with the clubs during their time at Millmoor between 1992 and 1996. He accepts that it pleased him to be linked to other jobs but it is very much business as usual for the Cobblers. This Saturday they travel to top of the table Wycombe Wanderers, knowing a win could push them into the play-off places.
