Steve Evans leaves Rotherham

Rotherham United have announced today that they have parted company with manager Steve Evans, and his assistant Paul Raynor after more than three years at the club.

A meeting between the Millers chairman and Evans this morning, and after discussions it was agreed that it was best to go separate ways. In a statement released by the club it reads ‘During the said meeting it became clear that both parties wished to head in a different direction.’

The decision was said to be amicable and Rotherham United added in the statement that they ‘will always welcome Steve and Paul whether as an opposition management team or as supporters’.

Evans took over the South Yorkshire club in April 2012, and after a very successful first season saw them promoted to League One. The boss from Glasgow managed to provide the Millers with the back-to-back promotions as he steered them to a League One Play-off Final win after beating Leyton Orient on penalties.

He managed to keep Rotherham in the Championship despite having a very small wage bill and transfer budget. Although they had a poor start to the campaign (not winning any of their first seven league games), they have just won back-to-back games against Cardiff and Birmingham.

Eric Black will take over the Millers on a caretaker basis until a permanent replacement has been found for the South Yorkshire club.
