McGugan comfortable with Owls role

Following his explosive return to action for Sheffield Wednesday, midfielder Lewis McGugan has praised his team-mates and has explained his time away from the line-up.

McGugan returned to the starting line-up for the Capital One Cup third-round fixture against Newcastle United after being away from the team since August 19. He marked his return to action with the winner in the Owls’ shock victory at St. James’ Park.

The win set up a glamorous home time with Premier League giants Arsenal.

“Arsenal are the sort of team you want to be playing and pitting your wits against, Hillsborough will be rocking that night, I am sure about that.” said McGugan.

Discussing his individual and the team performance the 26-year-old said: ““It was a good, all-round performance from everyone. Every single player was brilliant and we deserved the win.”

“It is always nice to get a goal, of course it is. It has been a hectic time. I have just become a father and I had also been down with the flu for the two days before Newcastle. So, it was a nice feeling to be able to get back out there, nice to be back playing and get back to normal.” he went on to add.

But discussing his return to the first-team action after the birth of his first child he commented: “The team have been doing well while I was out and the players have done great. There is a lot of competition that can only bode well for the club. Everyone is going out there to stake their claim. Sometimes, you have to bide your time and when an opportunity comes along make sure you take it.”

It surely puts to the bed all the rumours of a fall-out with new boss Carlos Carvalhal regarding his role in the team. McGugan, a clear fan favourite, will be looking for a starting spot in the Portugese boss’ team as the Owls travel to Brentford returning to Championship action.
