ESPN FC is reporting that Premier League side Leicester City are one of a number of clubs that has Carlisle United goalkeeper Mark Gillespie on their radar. He produced a heroic performance last night against Liverpool in the Capital One Cup.
The 23-year-old was on the receiving end of 47 shots on goal at Anfield, with him being called upon to make 16 saves altogether. He signed a new contract with the club over the summer, penning a new one year deal with the option of extending that for an additional year. Gillespie frustrated the likes of Brazilian internationals Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in normal time, and although he saved Coutinho and Adam Lallana spot kicks in the shoot-out, he was still on the losing side.
Coutinho for #LFC now…it's saved by Gillespie. Still 2-1 to the Reds

Claudio Ranieri’s men are one of a few clubs that are taking more of a highlighted interest in the former Newcastle United youngster. Other clubs include Championship duo Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion. More and more scouts can be expected to attend matches at Brunton Park in the near future should Gillespie continue to produce such memorable displays between the sticks.
Proud of everyone associated with #cufc so close to producing an upset, players and fans were unbelievable! What an experience 👏🏼💙 #cufc

He had already been attracting some interest prior to the match last night earlier in the summer and last season, however knowing he can perform on the big stage in front of big crowds will only further enhance his reputation in the game. On Saturday, Gillespie will be again hoping to impress as he tries to keep out Newport County, who are rock bottom of the Football League.
