Dons, MK Dons striker took massive pay cut

MK Dons striker took massive pay cut

New MK Dons signing Nicky Maynard took a massive pay cut to join the club, according to a report by The Sun.

MK Dons announced the signing of the striker earlier today after his release from Cardiff in the summer following the expiration of his contract.  Maynard joins on a deal until the end of the season.

However boss Karl Robinson has revealed that Dons were not always so sure Maynard would sign.  Robinson said:

“We were firm from the word go with what we could offer. Initially it was a shock for him and his people. They had to go away and think about it but I’m delighted he signed.”

Maynard, 28, has plenty of experience in the Championship, having played in the league with each of his former clubs, scoring 50 goals along the way.

The striker could make his Dons debut tonight in the League Cup game against Southampton, however boss Robinson does not care much for the competition.

Robinson said: “I don’t care. I think it’s pretty poor of the Football League to ask us to play on Wednesday and then Saturday.”
