Livermore applauds fan support after comeback

25-year-old Livermore, who currently has one England senior cap to his name, played 69 minutes at the KC Stadium last night. It was the former Tottenham Hotspur player’s first match since failing a drugs test back in May.

Livermore was made aware of his failed drugs test on May 13th 2015, which was slightly less than a year since the tragic death of his new-born son, Jake Junior. The Football Association has since elected to not hand a ban to the midfielder because of the ‘unique nature of the circumstances’.

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail after defeating the Swans last night, manager Steve Bruce says that Livermore, who has only had 10 days of full training, looked well at home back on the pitch,

“It was like having a new player out there. He lasted longer than I thought but I’m sure he’ll just be delighted to be back playing again. He’s been through a tough time and it’s now just important to get his career back on track and make sure he gives us a hand getting back to where we want to be.”

Bruce also revealed that he contemplated handing him more of a low-key return in a Under-21 game but felt that a cup tie against Premier League opponents was the perfect way to reintroduce him back to the scene,

“It was the ideal game. I could have put him in an Under-21 game and no disrespect but it’s a million miles from what he’s just played. It wasn’t as though he was coming back from a serious injury so it’s important he gets his first game out of the way.”

Livermore will be hoping to retain his place in the Hull starting line-up when they entertain Blackburn Rovers in the Championship this coming Saturday.
