Blackburn turned down £22 million striker

According to a report by The Sun, Blackburn Rovers turned down £22 million Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-Min around six years ago.

Son was at Blackburn and, according to the report, did well.  However Blackburn turned the striker down rather than pay £20,000 to sign him.

According to the report, a club insider from the time said: “Son was at Blackburn and did very well. But he would need to be signed and sent out on loan to Europe until he got a permit.

“Junior Hoilett was at Blackburn on a similar basis and loaned out to Germany. But Academy Chiefs decided against doing the same with Son.”

Instead Son stayed with Hamburger SV and went on to make 78 appearances for the German club, scoring 20 goals.

Son then made the move to Bayer 04 Leverkusen, signing for a club-record fee of €10 million.  Son scored 29 goals in two season at Leverkusen before making his £22 million move to Tottenham this summer.
