Smith fully focused on Peterborough ahead of Chelsea

Walsall manager Dean Smith has told the Express & Star that his side aren’t already thinking about next week’s cup tie against Chelsea. The Saddlers tomorrow make the trip to Peterborough United in League One.

Smith and his side play against a managerless side for the second game in a row after defeating Doncaster last weekend. On Wednesday his side will pit their wits against Jose Mourinho’s international star-studded line-up but Smith believes that his players are fully focused on the trip to London Road,

“The complete focus is on Peterborough.

It’s about going and winning the game there – I won’t start thinking about Chelsea until I need to.

The players are fully focused, and our start in the league has helped with that – they can see where we will end up if we keep winning games.

We’ve spoken about the Chelsea game, we have had to because there’s been a lot of interest in it.”

The Bescot Stadium will be a sell out next week as Walsall look to inflict more disappointment for Chelsea following a below-par start to the seasons by the reigning Premier League champions. Ever since the draw paired up the clubs, Smith has been keen to ensure that the league campaign comes first and two wins out of three league games since then could be described as a decent return.
