Peterborough United close in on a new manager

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has revealed that he has narrowed his choice to two potential candidates for the club’s vacant managerial job.

Despite having two candidates in mind, the Posh chairman revealed that a manager will not be in place for Saturday’s clash against Walsall.

MacAnthony sacked manager Dave Robertson earlier this month after Peterborough managed just one win in their first six league matches. Former player Grant McCann is currently running the first-team, his first game in charge was hugely successful as Posh ran out 5-1 winners against Oldham at Boundary Park.

The chairman revealed the update on the managerial situation during a Periscope session with the club’s fans last night. Brian McDermott, Robbie Fowler and Steve Evans are all out of the running for the job. Other names such as Nigel Clough and John Carver have also been ruled out. With Evans not in the running, MacAnthony revealed that a manager at a current Championship club has applied for the position.

At this time it is unclear who is on the two-man shortlist for the job, but an appointment is expected to made early next week.
