Gary Bowyer questions QPR’s FFP punishment

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has questioned why it has taken the Football League so long to enforce punishment on QPR for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations, the Lancashire Telegraph reports.

The Blackburn boss has been speaking ahead of his side’s clash with QPR on Wednesday evening. Rovers and The Rs were two of the four clubs punished last season for breaching FFP rules by posting losses above the maximum £8 million limit.

Whilst Blackburn were handed a transfer embargo by the League, QPR were instead fined after securing promotion back to the Premier League. Despite this fine, Rangers are yet to pay anything back as they are challenging the ruling, and continued on to spend around £9 million during the last transfer window.

Speaking before tonight’s game, the Lancashire Telegraph quotes Gary Bowyer as saying “I think ourselves and Forest, and Leeds at the time, will be looking to see why it has taken so long to come to a decision.

“I don’t blame Chris Ramsey for it, it’s got nothing to do with him, he’s spent and rightly so, but how long does it take to make the decision? It didn’t take that long to take the decision with us.

“They’ve come down from the Premier League and there is no embargo hanging over them. If you look at the length of time it has taken to come a decision, that’s questionable.

“We did a great bit of business in keeping hold of Jordan Rhodes and they’ve done the same with Charlie Austin.”

Bowyer’s side currently sit in 23rd place in the Sky Bet Championship with three points. Rovers have failed to win any of their first six league matches and were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by League One outfit Shrewsbury Town.
