Henry – QPR can have ‘no excuses’ this season

QPR midfielder Karl Henry has said that his side can have ‘no excuses’ not to mount a promotion challenge this season, speaking in an interview with QPR’s official club website.

The Rs currently sit in 9th place in the Championship after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest. It’s been a summer of heavy recruitment at QPR, with the likes of Massimo Luongo, Tjaronn Chery and Alex Smithies all making the move to Loftus Road.

Speaking to the club’s website, Henry recognises the success of this transfer window for QPR by saying “we’ve got a really strong side and in terms of the players we managed to keep, that transfer window is probably the best the club has had in the time I have been here.”

Henry further discusses the transfer window, “for us in the changing room to see them still here is really huge,” he stated, “it makes us now think that we can have a real good go, there are no excuses.

“That uncertainty around the transfer window isn’t just unsettling for the players involved. It’s unsettling for the rest of us as well.”

The midfielder also discussed the possibility of striker Charlie Austin leaving the club and how that would have impacted on the rest of the squad. “When there’s suggestions your star striker could go, we’re all thinking, ‘What happens if he goes? Who’s going to bang in the goals?’”, Henry said.

“So it’s really comforting for us that they’ve all stayed.”

The 32-year-old concludes by issuing a challenge to his team-mates. He stated “there are no excuses now. We’ve got a squad worthy of getting in that top six and having a really good promotion push.”

Henry has made 70 appearances at QPR since joining in the summer of 2013. 33 of his appearances at the club came in the Premier League last season, but he failed to score or assists any of their goals.
