Cardiff City join the race for Manchester United striker

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has confirmed they are interested in taking Manchester United forward James Wilson on-loan, according to Wales Online.

The bluebirds join a host of other Championship clubs who are interested in signing the 19-year-old forward, who has featured 18 times for Manchester United’s first-team and scored four goals. Wilson also has one England under-21 cap, scoring the winning goal on his debut against the USA on the 3rd September.

Slade confirmed the interest in the striker at his pre-Huddersfield press conference on Friday. When asked about potential incomings during the emergency loan window, the Cardiff boss highlighted Wilson as a target.

“Obviously he’s a player of strong ability,” Slade told the press.

“He’s somebody that Manchester United think very highly about. It would be wrong if people turned their heads away when James Wilson was available. So that’s not a no from me.”

Derby County are reportedly leading the race to secure his signature, and Slade recognises that he faces tough competition to bring the striker to the Cardiff City Stadium by saying “there are 14 Championship clubs interested in Wilson, but there are 12 Premier League teams too mind.”
