MacAnthony squashes Evans talk, new name emerging

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony says that he is ‘absolutely not’ looking to appoint Rotherham United boss Steve Evans as his next manager. Last night he exchanged views with Posh supporters on social media.

The Rotherham United man is no longer the favourite to succeed Dave Robertson at London Road this morning, there has been a flurry of money coming for former Leeds United and Reading boss Brian McDermott. He is now the clear favourite for the job.

Peterborough Telegraph reports that 54-year-old McDermott is currently chief scout with Premier League side and the club where he started his playing career in Arsenal. He has been out of work since departing Elland Road over 16 months ago. When pressed by supporters on the name of McDermott, owner MacAnthony certainly didn’t rule him out, calling him a ‘great guy’,

It is believed that the owner had phone interviews with potential managerial appointments yesterday and it is hoped that a final decision will be made as early as next week. Other names which have attracted more attention as the week has progressed are York City manager Russ Wilcox and former Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov.

Assistant boss and current caretaker manager Grant McCann will lead the team for tomorrow’s League One encounter with Oldham Athletic.
