Williams becomes fifth Forest loan signing

Nottingham Forest have today confirmed the loan signing of Crystal Palace midfield player Jonathan Williams. The clubs official website confirms that he has joined until 16th January 2016.

The 21-year-old Welshman was handed his professional debut by manager Dougie Freedman during his time as manager of the Selhurst Park club. Although he has struggled to break into the Premier League starting eleven, Williams found joy more recently in the Championship during three separate loan spells with Ipswich Town.

He gave his first interview as a Forest player to their official website, with Williams expressing his delight at being reunited with Freedman and assistant manager Lennie Lawrence,

“I know the manager and Lennie from Palace, where they gave me my breakthrough.

As a youngster it wasn’t just the training sessions, it was the time he spent working with us afterwards on things like shooting.

He took extra pride in improving us as players.”

Although born in Kent, Williams qualifies for Wales as his father was born in Anglesey. He made his debut for the senior national team in a 2-1 victory against Scotland when coming on as a substitute in place of Gareth Bale.

Williams is set to make his debut for his new side on Saturday in the televised lunchtime game at Queens Park Rangers. He becomes the fifth loan player in the squad, joining Kyle Ebecilio, Ryan Mendes, Nélson Oliveira and Chris O’Grady.
