The Daily Mail today reports that League One side Chesterfield could be set to sign West Brom youngster Jack Fitzwater on loan. He was the Premier League side’s Academy Player of the Year last season.
The versatile defender is capable of performing across the back line ideally at centre back, but is also effective at right back or even a defensive midfield player. The 17-year old is highly thought of by Baggies boss Tony Pulis and was even invited to attend the first-team pre-season tours of Austria and America this summer. Clearly it was an experience he enjoyed and took to social media to express those views.

Pulis has been in discussions with Chesterfield manager Dean Saunders and wants to see how the talented Englishman could cope with the rigors and physical demands that League One would undoubtedly provide.
Fitzwater has already impressed in the West Brom Under-21 side, despite being of Under-18 squad age. Other youngsters in that squad included Liam O’Neil and Donervorn Daniels, who both had spells out of loan last season and now ply their trade in the Football League. O’Neil signed permanently for Chesterfield this summer.
A short-term deal is expected to be tied up in the coming days, although it remains to be seen if he joins in time to be included in Saturday’s game against strugglers Colchester United at the Proact Stadium.
