Coventry City have announced the signing of striker Marc-Antoine Fortune on a one-year deal.
Fortune was released by Wigan at the end of last season and as a free agent joins the club without a transfer fee.
The 34 year-old striker has had spells under Coventry boss Tony Mowbray at both West Bromich Albion and Celtic. Fortune has become a bit of a journey and the Sky Blues become his ninth permanent club, 17 years after he started his career at French side Angouleme.
Fortune told the Coventry City official website of his joy of signing for the club:
“Obviously I’ve seen stuff on the internet and it is a new era for the club after some difficult periods. I’m really happy to be part of it and I want to help bring it back up to where it used to be.
The striker watched Coventry’s 2-2 draw with Southend last Monday night and has been training with the first team all week. He went on to say:
“I’ve really enjoyed training with the club now and I’m delighted everything has been sorted for me to sign. Hopefully I can be involved on Sunday, I just want to play football.
Fortune saw his three-year spell at Wigan end this summer and in his time there he played 71 league games scoring five goals.
The move means he teams up with Tony Mowbray for a third time and the Coventry manager was delighted with his new signing. He told ccfc.co.uk:
