Portuguese international striker joins Nottingham Forest on loan

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of forward Nelson Oliveira on loan from Benfica.

Despite being under a transfer embargo Forest have added the 24 year-old striker to their squad for the remainder of the season.

Forest owner Fawaz Al Hasawi took to twitter after deadline day to confirm that fans could expect three new signings and Oliveira is the first of them.

Oliveira, who has played 14 times for Portugal, has gained experience across Europe after loan spells in the top-flight of England, France and Spain.

The striker has been at Benfica since the age of 15, but has only played 12 games for the Portuguese giants. He spent the 2012-13 season on loan at Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna, playing 30 La Liga games scoring four goals. The following season Oliveira played out on loan at Rennes in Ligue 1. Playing another 30 games the forward netted eight times.

His name may be familiar to some English supporters after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea. In ten Premier League games for Gary Monk’s side he netted just once, against Newcastle in April.

Oliveira has represented his country at Under-16 level right up to the national side, although he has not featured for his country since 2013.
