Championship Manager of the Month nominations: August

The arrival of September means we are already one month into the new season and it has been a great start to the season across the Football League. Several clubs have hit the ground running in the Championship but which four managers have been shortlisted for the first Manager of the Month award of the season.

Steve Bruce – Hull City

Hull have made a solid start to life back in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League. With Steve Bruce still at the helm Hull have every chance of bouncing straight back and being promoted this season. Wins in the opening month against Huddersfield, Fulham and Preston and a draw at Wolves has put Hull second in the table. The only blemish on their record so far is the 2-1 defeat at Charlton, but such is the nature of the Championship that Bruce’s side find themselves in a strong position still.

Chris Hughton – Brighton & Hove Albion

Many feared it could be another difficult season for Brighton and Hughton, but they have made a cracking start to the Championship season. Brighton are one of just four sides to remain unbeaten in the Championship after the opening month of the season. Four wins and a draw is near perfection and the 3-2 win at the end of the month at Ipswich was the pick of their results. Could this be the season that Brighton reach the promised land?

Mick McCarthy – Ipswich Town

McCarthy has been around the block enough times to know that a good opening month of the season does not mean success come May, but even he will be happy with the start his side have made. After an opening day draw with Brentford, three wins in a row against Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Preston has cemented their place in the early play-off mix. The loss to Brighton to close out the month was a rare blip on what otherwise has been a near faultless beginning to the season.

Chris Ramsey – Queens Park Rangers

A slow start to the month with a defeat to Charlton and draw with Cardiff through a last minute leveller from Scott Malone piled on the pressure for Ramsey. His side has responded however, winning their last three games against Wolves, Rotherham and Huddersfield as they sit fourth in the table. With the transfer window now closed and Charlie Austin still at the club for the time being attention should remain firmly on the top end of the table for Rangers.

The winner of the Player and Manager of the Month awards for August will be revealed on Friday.
