TRANSFERS: Top 5 Important Transfers by Sheffield Wednesday

A summer of change down at Hillsborough is almost at a close. Fifteen out, fifteen in. Sheffield Wednesday have brought in an impressive amount of talent as well as making clever sales.

The departure of popular figures such as Lewis Buxton and Chris Kirkland were softened by the summer acquisitions. Local rivals Rotherham United took Buxton, along with Joe Mattock and Chris Maguire. Stevie May was the only departure that brought in a fee, as he moved to Preston North End on an undisclosed deal – joining Chris Kirkland and Marnick Vermijl who moved on a free transfer and loan respectively.

Other departures included Rafael Floro, Rhys McCabe, Paul Corry, Kamil Zayatte, Jacques Maghoma, Gary Madine, Matt Young, Dejan Kelhar and Giles Coke.

Portugese acquisition Marco Matias’ transfer fee was only eclipsed by the fee that the Owls spent to bring in Fernando Forestieri in from Watford. Lewis McGugan also made the same route from London to Sheffield. Loan deals for midfielder Alex Lopez, defenders Michael Turner, Jack Hunt and Vincent Sasso added to the squad. Four free transfers completed Sheffield Wednesday’s business for the summer.
