Jackett praises Wolves hitman Afobe

Wolves manager Kenny Jackett has applauded Benik Afobe for his professionalism after a hectic summer off the pitch for the young striker, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Afobe has been the subject of heavy speculation all summer and throughout the start of the season right up until deadline day, but he remains a Wolves player.

After turning down several bids for the striker, Kenny Jackett spoke out in support of his main goalscorer:

“Benik has been very professional. I have got a lot of sympathy for him and think it is a very difficult situation which has been obvious to everyone.

“We have been very honest with him, every time there was a bid we told him, and it has been a difficult time for him which we understand.

“He has been very professional about it and has kept his own counsel which is a good way of handling things.”

After hitting 13 goals in 21 appearances for Wolves in the second half of last season, attention over signing Afobe was inevitable. However, Jackett praised the club for staying firm over any offers that came in for his players:

“There has been a lot of speculation, particularly about Benik, and the club have done well to turn down very sizeable bids.

“There were three very sizeable bids for Benik and we as a club have turned those down because we think that is the right thing to do.”

Wolves were rocked by the news on deadline day that fellow talent Nouha Dicko is set to miss the rest of the season through injury. Speculation over Rajiv van La Parra never materialised and Jackett has confirmed that he has every chance to force his way back into first team contention.
