Vydra targetting more Championship success at Reading

Reading’s new signing Matej Vydra has told the club’s official website that he is hoping to help his new club to a successful season in the Championship.

23-year-old striker Vydra joined the Royals on a deadline day loan move that will see him play for the Championship club for all of the 2015/16 season.

He told readingfc.co.uk of his hopes for the coming season:

“In the first month it will be good to get to know these people within the club to help me, but I know the Championship – it’s a very hard league, but hopefully I will do well for Reading.

“I know it’s difficult to get promoted but I did it last season with Watford, so I want to do it again with Reading because it’s a great feeling.  It will be a hard season but we have a very good team and if we can learn to work together and fight together I think we can do it.”

The Czech international signed for Watford from Udinese permanently after his second loan season at the club, but will not be featuring in the Hornets Premier League plans.

Last season Vydra scored 16 goals from 31 appearances in the league and alongside Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo, he helped Watford gain promotion to the Premier League. Vydra made it quite clear that his focus will be scoring goals for his new club:

“I’ve come here to help the team with my goals, and I’d like to start that in the next league game.  In England, football is all about supporters so hopefully a lot will come to the stadium and watch, because with them behind us we can play better football and enjoy it more.  The most important things for me are the team and the supporters.”

Reading enjoyed a very busy deadline day with Ola John also joining the club, whilst defender Michael Hector was sold to Chelsea, although he has been loaned straight back to the Royals.

Steve Clarke’s picked up their first league win of the season at the weekend against Brentford and host Ipswich on Friday 11th September after the international break.
