QPR captain commits his future to Loftus Road

Queens Park Rangers defender Nedum Onuoha has signed a two-year contract extension, reports BBC Sport.

The 28-year-old centre-back joined QPR in January 2012 from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee. If Onuoha sees out his new contract he will have spent six years at Loftus Road and spend his peak years as a player at the club.

Onuoha told QPR’s official website that he was more than happy to sign a new deal:

“The last three and a half years have most certainly been exciting to say the least.

“The way the club is looking now, aiming to stabilise for the future, it’s another exciting period ahead.”

In his time at QPR, Onuoha has made 92 appearances as a starter and come of the bench for a further 12 games. In that period QPR have been relegated from the Premier League, gained promotion at the first time of asking, before being relegated again last season.

There were reports on deadline day that Onuoha could be subject to a late move from Norwich, but this proved to be just speculation.

Manager Chris Ramsey was delighted to see Onuoha sign a new deal. He told QPR.co.uk:

“Nedum is one of our most experienced players and him signing a new deal is fantastic news for everyone connected to the football club.

“He’s our captain, our leader, and his performances so far this season have been to an exceptionally high standard.”

Onuoha came through the youth ranks at Manchester City and in eight years at the club he made 95 league appearances. He spent the 2010/11 season on loan at Sunderland and was sold to QPR in 2012 when it became clear he was never going to be an active part of City’s first team squad.
