Sheffield Wednesday lead chase for Norwich striker

The Scunthorpe Telegraph is reporting that Sheffield Wednesday are leading the race to sign Gary Hooper from Norwich ahead of Championship rivals Fulham.

Hooper is deemed surplus to requirements at Carrow Road with reports running all summer that he could be likely to make a move back down into the Championship.

Last week the Owls seemed clear favourites to sign the striker, however coming into deadline day Fulham were favourites to get Hooper’s signature. However in another twist the odds for the former Celtic man to join Wednesday have been slashed, putting them back as favourites to bring him in.

This one could go right down to the wire as to where Hooper goes or if he leaves Carrow Road at all. The 27-year-old striker netted 12 goals for Norwich last season in 30 Championship games as they gained promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs.

There has also been speculation that Hooper could return to Scotland and Celtic, but it seems a move to the Championship could be more likely.
