Ola John

Benfica winger having medical at Reading

Benfica winger Ola John is at the Madejski Stadium for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move to Reading. Get Reading reports that the former FC Twente player arrived at the ground just before lunchtime and the move should be concluded later this afternoon.

23-year-old John impressed so much during his time in Holland that the 34-times Portuguese top flight champions paid out a reported £10million for his services. He scored three goals in 28 league appearances last season, after a loan spell with Bundesliga club Hamburg the season before.

John has started two of Benfica’s games so far this season but has been substituted on both occasions by newly-appointed head coach Rui Vitória.

The Liberia born player has enjoyed a highly successful career if his trophy cabinet is anything to go by. He has won domestic league title in Portugal and finished runner up in the Netherlands Eredivisie. He has also won cup competitions in each of those nations, in addition to a runners-up medal in the UEFA Europa League in 2013.

Reading boss Steve Clarke continues to enjoy an extremely busy transfer deadline day. We revealed earlier today how Matej Vydra is highly likely to be joining the club on a season-long loan from Watford. Whilst Get Reading also believe that AFC Bournemouth’s Tokelo Rantie is a strong transfer target as well.
