Lille say Ryan Mendes signs for Nottingham Forest

The Nottingham Post is reporting that French club Lille have confirmed the departure of winger Ryan Mendes on a season-long loan to Championship side Nottingham Forest. After the club accepted a £7million bid from West Ham United for Michail Antonio, the 25-year-old could be a direct replacement for their in-demand top scorer.

Mendes is a Cape Verde international and there is the option for the City Ground club to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan deal. He signed for Lille from Le Havre in 2012 for a fee of £2.1million but has found it hard to hold down a regular starting place since joining. He has made three substitute appearances so far this season and scored two goals in 19 league appearances in the last campaign.

Manager Dougie Freedman hasn’t hid from the fact that he’d like to boost his squad before the 6pm transfer deadline this afternoon. With a winger to replace the likely departing Antonio now sorted, he will put all his attentions into bringing in another striker if possible. Yesterday Freedman told the Nottingham Post that he was close to bringing in two signings, meaning at least one more should be announced later today.

They are also hoping to avoid any more players leaving and Michael Mancienne is being strongly linked with a move to Craven Cottage to side for Fulham. The Whites are believed to have offered £2million but the asking price is a slightly higher £2.5million. They aren’t expected to increase that offer, meaning that any potential deal isn’t expected to be concluded.
