Sheffield Wednesday: Owls show interest in outcast Palace midfielder

Reports emering from London’s Croydon Advertiser, have indicated that Sheffield Wednesday’s spending is not yet finished with their recent capture of Watford’s Fernando Forestieri, reputedly for around £3m. It seems that the next player who might be heading up the M1 for South Yorkshire could very well be ex-Aston Villa and Crystal Palace midfielder Barry Bannan who the Advertiser say has been deemed “surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park”. The Croydon Advertiser say that a loan move away from London is the likely outcome as Bannan looks for football opportunities elsewhere.

The 25-year old Bannan, a Scottish international, is currently recovering from a hamstring injury picked up during preseason but, with opportunities limited, it seems his future lies away from the bright city lights of the Big Smoke. Bannan spent time on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers last season and in the 16 appearances that he made (1,374 minutes), the Scot contributed three assists and won three WhoScored man-of-the-match awards.

With a Premier League pedigree and Championship experience, this loan move could prove to pay dividends and give the Owls’ season a real kick-start.
