Stearman and van La Parra set to leave Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has told the Express and Star that Richard Stearman and Rajiv van La Parra could have played their last games for the club. Jackett is also still hoping to add to his squad before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Jackett revealed how a £2million bid from Championship rivals Fulham has been accepted for Stearman, who was the club’s player of the year and fans’ player of the year last season. 28-year-old Stearman moved to Molineux back in 2008 from Leicester City and has since gone on to make over 200 appearances with Wolves, the first being a 2-2 draw with Plymouth Argyle. Former Millwall boss Jackett insists it is purely a football decision,

“We’ve accepted a bid from Fulham. As far as we know he’s discussing personal terms now.

It’s a football decision, we feel with the quality of our young centre halves and Danny Batth coming back that it’s something we can do.

We wish Richard all the best, we thank him for some excellent years of service for the club and we wish him the very best of luck in the future.”

In addition to Stearman, former Heerenveen Dutchman van La Parra is another close to moving away from the West Midlands outfit. Whilst Jackett says he would be happy to keep the 24-year-old former Netherlands Under-21 player, he is in talks with other clubs, one rumoured to be Leeds United,

“Rajiv van La Parra was talking to potentially two clubs today, that was why he wasn’t involved.

If it does break down obviously he’s still a Wolves player, but there’s potential on that front.”

Jackett does admit he is happy with the squad of players that he has at his disposal but following yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, he is open to the prospect of new recruits,

“I’m pleased with the group of players we have but yes if possible we want to improve. And I think we have to make some big decisions. If it’s getting some money in and strengthening in other areas it’s best to do it early.”

Wolves head into the international break sitting firmly in mid-table in the Championship. They next take to the field on September 12th against an out-of-sorts Bolton Wanderers side, who too will be looking to improve their squad in the coming days, undoubtedly like most clubs.
