Fulham strongly linked with Lyon’s Bakary Koné

Fulham are being heavily linked with the signing of Bakary Koné from French side Lyon on a four-year deal for a fee in the region of £1.5million. AfricanFootball.com today reports that L’Equipe has revealed that the Burkina Faso international is out of favour under Lyon manager Hubert Fournier and Whites boss Kit Symons could be set to take advantage.

Having been linked with clubs such as Newcastle United and Cardiff City earlier this summer, it now appears that Koné is set to swap the Stade de Gerland for Craven Cottage. Symons hasn’t hid from the fact that he is looking to strengthen his squad before Tuesday’s deadline and is very close to bolstering his defence.

Fulham have strengthened their squad in the close-season with the likes of Ben Pringle joining from Rotherham United, Tim Ream signing from Bolton Wanderers and Luke Garbutt penning a loan deal from Everton. Koné, who has been named in the Burkina Faso squad for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualification game, has played 86 games for Lyon since joining from En Avant Guingamp in 2011 and will provide great experience to what is a relatively young squad.

Sky Sports revealed yesterday how Fulham have shown an interest in Nottingham Forest’s Michael Mancienne, after their quest to sign Brighton’s Lewis Dunk failed after he signed a new contract. It remains to be seen if Symons still chases former Chelsea player Mancienne, not that Koné is very close to signing. The club has also been linked with Brentford’s James Tarkowski, clearly indicating that Symons is looking to strengthen the position he once played in during his playing days.

No official word has come out of Fulham regarding confirmation of the transfer, so it remains to be seen if Symons can pull off what would be something of a transfer coup in bringing Koné to Craven Cottage. Earlier today, The Northern Echo confirmed how Fulham allowed defender Fernando Amorebieta to re-join Middlesbrough on a season-long loan. In return, James Husband joins on a one-month loan after failing to dislodge George Friend from the left back slot at the Riverside Stadium. Tomorrow, Fulham travel to take on Rotherham United in the Championship, hoping to record their first win of the season.
