Sheffield Wednesday enter race for Watford’s Forestieri

In news coming through from SkySports, South Yorkshire club Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly made a £3m bid to secure the services of Watford’s Argentinian-born Italian Fernando Forestieri. The former U21 international, yet to be used in the Premier league by Watford, scored five times last season for the Londoners as they secured automatic promotion by finishing in second place in the Championship. Despite preferring any move to be to a team based in the south of England, this has not deterred Sheffield Wednesday who are hoping to make the striker their 12th signing of the summer transfer period.

The news was first broken by Sky Sports Daivd Garrido, via the above Tweet, and will come as a shock and heavy disappointment for Leeds United fans should the transfer be a successful one. Leeds had a similar bid accepted by Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family, and were hopeful of landing his services but the player himself is reluctant to move north to continue his football career in England.

In addition to hopefully securing the services of Forestieri, the Owls are also thought to be pursuing the season-long loan signing of Norwich striker Gary Hooper as Carlos Carvalhal looks to strengthen his squad before the summer window closes new week.
