Carlisle recall Meppen-Walter from trial

Carlisle United have recalled defender Courtney Meppen-Walter from his trial at Bolton Wanderers, reports News and Star.

Bolton boss Neil Lennon had been keen to take a longer look at the defender but Carlisle boss Keith Curle has confirmed that he has returned to the club.

Wanderers have been told that if they wish to take a longer look at the 21-year old they will need to loan him even if it’s only for a week.

Meppen-Walter has fallen out of favour at United and has been placed on the transfer list. He has not featured in their first four games and even Keith Curle says the situation is still the same even though he has returned.

Curle said: “Bolton asked to extend their period of looking at him and that’s been rejected. I think they’ve had an opportunity to look at him, and now the ball’s been put back in their court. If they want to have a look at him further then they need to take him on loan.”

And Trotters boss Lennon said: “He has gone back to Carlisle, they called him back, so I’m not sure where we are with that one. If we do it’ll be a loan, but I’m not sure we want to do that at the minute.”

The former Manchester City youth player has been on the books of Carlisle United since 2013 after trouble with the law.
