Brighton agree deal for Shrewsbury’s Player of the Year

Brighton & Hove Albion have agreed a deal to sign Shrewsbury Town defender Connor Goldson, according to reports.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a fantastic season during the 2014/15 campaign, and was named in the League Two Team of the Year after a number of good performances. In total, Goldson has made 119 appearances for Salop, scoring eight and assisting four.

The defender has attracted a number of clubs who were interested in signing him, most recently Leeds and QPR have been two clubs who were linked with making a move. Championship side Brighton are now reportedly the team who have won the race for his signature.

Shrewsbury Town captain Liam Lawrence was recently full of praise for Goldson, saying that he “is one of the best I’ve played with at any level.”

“I played with Richard Dunne at his peak with Ireland, with John O’Shea,” added Lawrence, “Connor’s up there with him and Ryan Shawcross when he first came to Stoke. In fact, Connor is even better at his age than they were.”
