Bristol City have £8 million bid for Brentford striker accepted

Bristol City have had an £8 million bid for Brentford striker Andre Gray accepted, and Gray is now set to travel to Bristol to hold talks with the club, according to TalkSport.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a fantastic debut season in the Championship during the 2014/15 campaign. After making the £500,000 move from Luton Town, Gray managed to find the net 18 times in 50 appearances for the Bees, also helping out with eight assists.

Gray has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs this summer, most notably Hull City, who offered a reported £5.5 million to try and secure the striker’s signature. Brentford were reluctant to sell, but now it appears that a big money offer from recently-promoted Bristol City is enough to persuade Brentford to sell.

Brentford were planning to offer Gray a new contract in the hope that it would knock interest from their Championship rivals. Gray has already scored two goals in as many games, including a goal against Bristol City in Brentford’s last match which finished 4-2 to the Bees.

Another team that will be happy with this deal are Luton Town, with reports suggesting that they will receive 20% of any sell-on fee for the striker.

Bristol City have made a new striker their top priority this summer, with a lack of goals seeing City lose their first two Championship matches. Bristol boss Steve Cotterill had made Dwight Gayle his top priority for this summer, but Gayle was not keen on a move that would see him leave Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.
