Huddersfield goalkeeper undergoing medical at QPR

Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Alex Smithies is in London to undergo a medical at fellow Championship club QPR ahead of a £1.5 million move, according to West Yorkshire Sport on Twitter.

The 25-year-old has made 270 appearances for Town, keeping 69 clean sheets. Smithies has represented England from under-16 to under-19 level, making a total of 15 international appearances.

Smithies was left out of the Huddersfield side who drew 1-1 with Blackburn on Saturday. QPR have been searching for a replacement goalkeeper after selling Alex McCarthy to Premier League side Crystal Palace this summer.

He could become QPR’s number one choice goalkeeper when he makes the move. QPR are also looking for a long-term replacement for Rob Green, the 35-year-old is approaching the end of his career.

Smithies will become QPR’s 11th signing of the summer, joining Ben Gladwin and Massimo Luongo from Swindon, James Perch from Wigan, Tjaronn Chery from Groningen, Sebastian Polter from Mainz, Grant Hall from Tottenham and Oscar Gobern, Jamie Mackie, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Tyler Blackwood on free transfers.
